Homecoming Queen

In November of 2001 as part of the Giant Sand curated night of the Beyond Nashville season aty London’s Barbican Mark Linkous performed this gorgeous Homecoming Queen with Polly Harvey helping out. I have a recording of the whole show but it’s such a mess and I haven’t been brave enough to sort through the three hours and track it - I may do one day as there are some treats on it.
Here’s an extract from the review I wrote at the time
…Mark Linkous up next - again with Polly Harvey, I must admit much to my own disgust that I loved Vivadixie… but still haven’t got around to filling up my Sparklehorse collection. He and Polly dueted quite beautifully for Homecoming Queen, my knees may have been week but in a sit down venue it’s hard to tell

That sure was a great night at the Barbican. If you are taking requests, I’d love to hear Vic and Kurt singing that song with the word “dog” in the chorus! Highlight of the night. That and Evan’s set. Oh and Polly singing Jonny Hit and Run Pauline with Howe. Shame on John Parrish though!!

I quite enjoyed the John Parish set although it didn’t fit in at all with the rest of the show.
